Facing the hard facts of the data
One of the original reasons I ran for school board was because I was concerned about student achievement. I am an ambassador for high achievement and will work toward that end during my tenure on the board. While I recognize that we have many, many students who do well academically, I also recognize that about 1/3 of our students are struggling and need our support. I am an advocate for strong reading programs, including the correct implementation of those programs.
Even though it’s sometimes hard to face the facts of our data, I will do so, as it is necessary for moving forward. You see, when we know better, we do better – as one reading expert puts it. I want us to do better and will continue to advocate for the success of all our students, including those who need us most.
